[Grammar] Indirect speech (question) 간접인용 : 의문문

This post is about indirect speech for question. We have learned indirect speech for statement here(click) which is -(ㄴ/는)다고 하다.  The indirect speech for question is 냐고 하다.

The forms for indirect speech for question is

Verb / Adjective + 냐고 하다
Noun + (이)이냐고 하다

		현재(present)	과거(past)	미래(future)
의문문 (question)	동사 verb	동사+-(느)냐고 often (느) drop 가냐고 먹냐고	–았/었/였냐고 갔냐고 먹었냐고 했냐고 예뻤냐고 작았냐고 있었냐고 없었냐고 선생님이었냐고 의사였냐고 선생님이 아니었냐고	-(으)ㄹ 거냐고 –겠냐고 갈 거냐고 먹을 거냐고
	형용사 adjective	형용사+-(으)냐고 often (으) drop 예쁘냐고 작냐고
	있다/없다 (have/be)	–냐고 있냐고 없냐고
	Noun이다 Noun이/가 아니다	-(이)냐고

For question, we use 물어보다(to ask) for a verb more than 하다(to speak).  And we can sometimes add some question words such as 언제, 어디, 어떻게, 왜, 누가, 무엇(뭐) etc.

1）현재

윤정 씨가 매운 음식을 안 먹냐고 물어봤어요.(Yoon Jeong asked me if I don’t eat spicy food.)
윤정 씨가 집에 왜 안 가냐고 물어봤어요.(Yoon Jeong asked me why I am not going home.)
윤정 씨가 어디가 아프냐고 물어봤어요.  (Yoon Jeong asked me where is not comfortable.)
제 남자 친구가 대학생이냐고 물어봤어요. (Someone asked me if my boyfriend is a college student.)
그 사람이 성준 씨 친구냐고 물어봤어요.(Someone asked if that person is Seong Joon.)

2) 과거

동생이 바나나를 누가 먹었냐고 물어봤어요. (My sister asked who ate the banana.)
선생님이 민정 씨 주소를 아냐고 물어봤어요. (알다 + 냐고 =>아냐고) (The teacher asked me if I know Min Jeong’s address). 
마이클 씨가 옛날에 영어 선생님이었냐고 물어봤어요. (Someone asked if Michael was an English teacher before.)
성민 씨가 어디에 가냐고 물어봤어요. (Someone asked where Seong Min is going.)

3) 미래

언제 한국에서 동계 올림픽이 열릴 거냐고 물어봤어요.(Someone asked when Korea is going to hold the Winter Olympics.)
왜 회사 문을 닫을 거냐고 물어봤어요. (Someone asked why I am going to shut down the company.) 
엄마가 어떻게 부산에 갈 거냐고 물어봤어요. (Mom asked me how I am going to Busan.)
